How to Get Bigger, Cleaner Air from Your RC Car (and Pick the Right Launch Ramp)
Share
Every RC driver remembers their first real send: the car leaves the ramp clean, hangs in the air, and lands on all four wheels. Then they want to do it again, only bigger.
The ramp has a lot to do with getting that kind of air. A wobbly plywood ramp or a pile of dirt gives you a different launch every time. A solid steel launch gives you the same takeoff every run, so you can actually dial in your speed and throttle control.
Here's how to get bigger, cleaner air from your RC, and how to pick the right Freshpark launch for the way you drive.
4 tips for cleaner RC jumps
1. Hit the ramp straight
Most crashes start before the car even leaves the ramp. Line up early and hit the face square. A wide ramp makes this easier, which is one reason full-size launches feel so much better than narrow ones.
2. Find your speed, then stay consistent
Start slower than you think you need. Add a little speed each run until you clear the landing. Once you find it, repeat it. Consistency is what turns one lucky jump into a skill.
3. Use throttle and brake to control pitch in the air
Nose dropping? Give it a little throttle in the air to lift the front. Nose too high? A tap of brake brings it down. Practice small corrections on small jumps before you go big.
4. Pick a smooth transition
A sharp lip kicks the car up unpredictably. A smooth curve with a toe piece at the bottom loads the suspension evenly and sends the car in a straight, controlled arc.
Choosing your Freshpark RC launch
For big air: RC Quarter Pipe Launch
The RC Quarter Pipe Launch is built to send your RC as high as you dare. It has a 10-foot radius, stands 33" tall and is 47" wide, and comes with a steel transition toe piece for a smooth roll-in. Detachable wheels make it easy to move. It folds into a compact 20" x 20" x 47" triangle for storage.
For an all-around launch: RC Launch Ramp
The RC Launch Ramp is 16" high and 47" wide, a wide, forgiving target for clean, repeatable jumps. It folds in half and stacks flat, so it fits in the garage or the back of a car. It's rated up to 500 lbs.
For adjustable height: Mega Launch RC Jump
Want one ramp that grows with your skills? The Mega Launch RC Jump adjusts to three heights in seconds with no tools. It has a grated, powder-coated steel surface for traction, is 102" long at full height, and folds into a 20" triangle when you're done.
For smaller setups: Heavy Duty RC Jump
Building a backyard RC track? The Heavy Duty RC Jump is a 36 lb steel jump with rubber feet and a toe piece. It's easy to move around as you change your layout. Run two as a double jump for a spine or a gap.
Why steel beats a homemade ramp
- Same launch every time. A rigid steel ramp keeps its shape, unlike a dirt kicker that changes after every rain, so the speed you dialed in last session still works.
- Weather resistant. Powder-coated steel is built for outdoor use, on dirt, grass or pavement.
- Portable. Fold it, load it and take it to the field, the bash spot or a friend's house.
- Quick setup. Spend your battery time driving, not building.
Drive safe
Keep spectators, pets and kids well clear of the landing zone and the car's flight path. Big RC cars carry a lot of speed. Set up in an open area and check the ramp is secure before each session.
